Within the scope of the social contribution project, Culinary Department students share the meals they prepare at iftar with the families of martyrs. Students share the flavors they learned at school with the families of martyrs at iftar time.
Yeşilova İsmail Akın Tourism Vocational School students, who organize events that touch the community in different areas every month, started by cleaning the mosques in the district before Ramadan began. Throughout Ramadan, students continue to be present in every aspect of life by visiting a martyr's family each week. They apply the knowledge they learned at school through activities in the field.
This week, Yeşilova İsmail Akın Tourism Vocational School students were guests at the iftar table of Zekiye Zengin, the mother of Hüseyin Zengin, who was martyred in Uludere in 1990 and lives alone in Yeşilova Harmanlı village. Before iftar, students visited the grave of our martyr and prayed. Subsequently, students shared the meals they prepared throughout the day at the martyr's family's table at iftar time.
School principal Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mert Gürlek said the following about this event, which was carried out in accordance with the spirituality of the month of Ramadan; “Our student friends are always in touch with the community in the field. We are very proud that they took part in such an event. We know well that the future is entrusted to them, and the young people are aware of this. They are taking care of the legacies left to us by our martyrs. This exemplary behavior gives hope for the future,” he said.
Project coordinator Lecturer Büşra Şen Avcu said, “As the culinary department of our school, we wanted to take part in a different event during Ramadan within the scope of the social contribution project with our friends. A suggestion regarding iftar came from our friends. Such a suggestion moved me very much. We immediately started our project. First, we were guests at Aunt Zekiye's iftar table in Harmanlı village with the meal prepared by our students. Sharing the same table, experiencing the happiness of the legacy of our martyr is a very beautiful feeling,” she said.
Student Derya Ak also said in her speech; “If we are breathing, it is because someone has given their lives for us. We are aware of this. For this reason, we young people will work with all our strength for our country with this awareness. We visit a martyr's family every week to not let them feel the absence of our martyrs. Today, we prepared soup, salad, a nice main course, and dessert with our friends for our meal. Sharing the same environment and the same table with the martyr's family is very beautiful,” she said.
Student Pınar Karaduman said; “Our martyrs gave their lives for us and for the future without hesitation, they entrusted their parents to us. We visit a martyr's family every week, especially during Ramadan, so they are not alone. We prepare the meals ourselves. Being in the same environment with the martyr's families and sharing iftar with them is an indescribable feeling,” she said.
